A modern guide to maximizing your time and getting the most out of life.
One of the few true things you hear about time management is that you need to make a list. Each morning, create a list of what you will accomplish that day. The list should be divided into work and personal things. Estimate the time needed for each task and write it down next to each item on your list. If your list of tasks to do at work totals more than 6 hours, you need to shorten the list. Even if you work 8 hours a day, you really only have 6 hours to work in. Something always comes up that eats away at those other two hours, so plan for this occurrence in advance and allow time for it. Otherwise, tasks will always be left undone. Next, if your list of personal things takes up more than 4 hours, you need to shorten this list also. For now, to shorten the list, move things to your Tuesday to do list. On Monday, Day 6, we’ll show you an even more efficient way to decide what to do today and what to move on to tomorrow. With your two lists done you are ready to start your day. Is there anything on your personnel list that you could do before work? If so do it NOW and then cross it off your list, this way you will arrive at work with a sense of accomplishment. Is there anything on your work list that you could do before getting to work? Again, if there is, do it NOW. At Work Now that you are at work, look at your list. Is there anything there that you could get done in the next 5 to 10 minutes? Is there anything stopping you from doing it? Why not get it done NOW. As you complete a task, cross it off the list, the simple act of crossing items off a list can be a powerful motivator. So what’s on your list now? What should you do now, in the morning, while you still have a lot of energy? Why not get it done? At Home At the end of the day, on your way home from work, is there anything on your personal list that you can get done? Do it NOW, instead of going back out later. Once you are home, look at your list. How many of the things on your work list did you accomplish today? Did something come up that kept you from completing the tasks or did you just not get to it? Move the unaccomplished tasks over to the Tuesday list. Now, what’s left on your personal list? Is there anything on it that you can do in a few minutes? Don’t you have a few minutes NOW? Why not do those items? Cross off everything that was done today. Look at what a productive day you’ve had and how easy it was to plan ahead for what you needed to get done and then to follow through and do it! This is just the first baby step towards creating life changing, time management habits. What follows in the days ahead will not only change how you spend time but will also free up hours of time that you never noticed you had before. Imagine getting 8 hours worth of work done in as little as 5 hours! It can be done and when you are through with this program you will be doing it!
